It is important to understand that band is both an academic and extra-curricular activity. The students are given the opportunity to letter in band based on the band related extra-curricular activities each student participates in. The letter is awarded to students who go above and beyond the normal class work that is required by enrolling in band. Each student will be given a lettering tally sheet at the beginning of the year. Students are responsible to keep a record of the extra-curricular activities they participate in . For students to receive points towards the letter for activities outside of the South High band department, lettering verification sheets must be turned in . These sheets can be found at the end of this document. Letters will be awarded based on the total points students earn throughout the academic year.
